Apart from using salt baths for the surface finishing of metals, the cleaning of metallic surfaces in oxidative salt melts is also one of the standard processes in modern manufacturing plants. Such processes are used to remove burnt on lacquers and paints, epoxy resins, colophony resins, soft and hard rubber, chlorine rubber, oil coke and carbon-bearing residues, sand and glass residues, enamels, residues of scale, synthetic materials such as polymers and polycondensation products of ethylene, propylene, and styrene from metal parts with which they have come into contact during the course of a process or to which they have been applied faultily.
The field of application for salt bath cleaning is very broad and ranges from the removal of paint from charging frames, to the removal of synthetic materials from production ancillaries, to the processing of rejects which are to be returned to the production plant.
